Catch Up Day

I haven't been the best #reflectiveteacher lately--my role as Mom once again took precedence. My son has been sick but seems to be on the mend. He's had a tough couple of weeks, I hope he is back to normal very soon! I want to respond to some of the posts I've missed...

The first post is about educational goals for the future. I will apply to renew my National Board Certification in 2021 and I would like to earn a Curriculum degree, as well.  Both of these goals will wait until my children are older, though. I do not want to miss out on events in their lives, they will both be in college in the blink of an eye, I want to be there for them as much as possible! I am a life-long learner, and I know I will continue to grow and learn in the meantime. This time is for them. :)

I would like to let go of negativity. We all need to treat one another and ourselves with kindness. Negativity drags everyone down and makes progress difficult. Life would be better for everyone if people were more positive.

Three small pleasures in my day consist of listening to great music during my commute, laughing with my children, and lately, knitting. My Grandma taught me how to knit and I've recently taken it up again. I'm not kidding when I say I'm a novice--I know two stitches and can basically only make a rectangle. I've decided that until I take a knitting class that I will work with this knowledge, not against it! I've found an extremely easy project and I'm knitting my daughter a headband. (I know, you thought I was going to say a scarf!) Knitting is extremely relaxing and meditative and I will have something to show for my efforts soon.

    Great reflection. I too am working on knitting and letting go of negativity. It is hard when the world feels against our profession an our work. Hope your son is on the mend; there is NOTHING worse than sick children to make you worry and worry. I definitely agree that time flies so fast for raising children.

Industrial Revolution Haiku

Students have been learning about the Industrial Revolution in the mid1800s and how it changed life in New England. Today students processed their learning by creating haiku poems on the subject. They were challenged to think about and evaluate this topic within the structure of a haiku, a 3 line poem with 17 total syllables--5 in the 1st and 3rd lines and 7 in the second line. The poems have been impressive and some will be posted here soon.

Students today learned about the many roles of the head of the Executive Branch, the President of the United States. I found several images of former Presidents in these roles--can you guess which is which? Post your answers below or email them to me. Choices: Commander-In-Chief Chief Executive Political Party Head Chief Diplomat 1.  President Eisenhower 2. President George HW Bush (on the right side of the picture) 3.
